On October 9, a 14-year-old boy was charged with the murder of his 45-year-old mother in the Severen district of Plovdiv, Bulgaria. The incident occurred in a residential building on Brezovska Street, where the teenager reportedly used a sharp object to commit the crime and subsequently called emergency services to report it.

Initial investigations by the Plovdiv District Prosecutor’s Office suggested the motive was “extremely personal, related to family relations.” By October 11, Prosecutor Ginka Lazarova stated that the victim had been stabbed multiple times and expressed the belief that the act was premeditated rather than a result of emotional distress.

A Plovdiv District Court has since ordered the detention of the minor. Legal proceedings are being held behind closed doors to protect his identity, and a psychiatric evaluation is pending to assess his mental state. If convicted of parricide, the minor faces a prison sentence of between three and ten years.
