Plug Power has abandoned plans to build a 100-megawatt green hydrogen plant at the Port of Antwerp-Bruges, resulting in approximately $15.8 million in impairments. This decision follows the U.S. Department of Energy's withdrawal of a $1.66 billion loan guarantee intended to fund several green hydrogen projects.

Despite these setbacks in large-scale infrastructure, the company is showing signs of a financial turnaround under CEO Jose Luis Crespo. After posting a $1.7 billion loss in 2025, Plug Power reported a narrower loss of $188 million in the most recent quarter. Gross losses also improved significantly, moving from a $53.5 million loss the previous year to a negative $1.7 million.

Revenue growth is being driven by double-digit increases in sales of GenEco hydrogen fuel systems. The company recently secured its largest order to date, a 275-PEM electrolyzer system for the Canadian conglomerate Hy2gen. Additionally, the company reported a 9 percent increase in quarterly revenue to $178.3 million and has raised its full-year revenue guidance.

Institutional interest remains high; BlackRock has increased its stake to approximately 13.19%, and Russell Investments Group recently increased its position by over 550%. While the stock remains significantly below its 52-week high, some analysts forecast substantial upside based on the company's potential to reach profitability.
