In early August 2026 Poland’s Ministry of Culture and National Heritage began drafting legislation to change two national commemorations. The first proposal, reported on 2 May, called for renaming the existing Flag Day to “Flag and White Eagle Day” and for giving the 15 August Assumption holiday an official designation as “Day of the Warsaw Battle” to honour the 1920 victory over Soviet forces.

A few days later, on 6 August, the ministry clarified that the plan was to grant both dates full public‑holiday status. The new law would formalise 2 May as a recognised holiday, potentially expanding its symbolism to include the White Eagle and the Battle of Warsaw, while also making 15 August an official holiday with the added historical designation. Both steps require parliamentary approval.
