Officials attributed these disruptions to extreme weather, such as storms and high temperatures. 

However, summer 2026 has seen unprecedented travel surges. PKP Intercity reported serving 17.8 million passengers across June and July 2026, with July alone seeing nearly 9.5 million travelers—a 9% increase from the previous year. To manage this, the carrier increased its summer schedule to approximately 560 daily connections.
