In October 2026, a series of violent confrontations in Santiago, Dominican Republic, involving police operations and targeted attacks, resulted in several deaths.

Earlier in the month, three separate shootouts occurred during police operations. On October 2, Eudy Antonio Infante de León, known as ‘Nifi’, died following a confrontation in Santiago Oeste. While police reported he opened fire with a .38 caliber revolver, his family contested the circumstances, claiming he was in a peaceful state. On October 10, a raid in Ensanche Espaillat/Cuesta Colorada left 21-year-old Isaac de Jesús Fernández Reyes, known as ‘Guccito’, dead and a SWAT corporal wounded after an alleged shootout on Avenida Imbert. On October 17, Wideiso Cris, known as ‘El Menor’, died after a confrontation with the Central Investigation Directorate (DICRIM) in the La Rotonda sector of Jacagua.

On October 22, the violence shifted toward the targeting of law enforcement. José Ramón Henríquez Mejía, a 29-year-old DICRIM sergeant, was shot and killed in the Barrio Nuevo sector of La Canela. Preliminary investigations suggest the incident stemmed from a collision between the officer, who was performing intelligence duties, and a motorcycle carrying two individuals, leading to an exchange of gunfire. Henríquez Mejía sustained a fatal wound to his shoulder. Two suspects have since surrendered: a 17-year-old adolescent and 21-year-old Steven Antonio Sandoval Bautista, known as ‘El Vico’.

On October 23, Christopher Tolentino Devora, known as ‘El Cantante’ or ‘El Mello’, was killed during an encounter with DICRIM agents in the Cuesta Colorado sector. Authorities report he allegedly confronted agents with an illegal firearm. Tolentino Devora was wanted for a robbery at the Santiago Central Electoral Board.

Additionally, Ramón Antonio Jáquez Torres, alias ‘La Changa’, died following an encounter with DICRIM in the La Yagüita de Pastor sector.
