The 93rd season of the Polish men’s first basketball league, the PGE Basket Liga, has commenced. The 2026/2027 campaign features sixteen licensed clubs and is characterized by increased financial investment and a competitive arms race among top-tier teams. Legia Warszawa enters the season as the defending champion and a favorite for a ‘three-peat’, alongside contenders such as Śląsk Wrocław, Anwil Włocławek, Zastal Zielona Góra, and Trefl Sopot.

Early season results have produced notable upsets. Newcomer Astoria Bydgoszcz defeated former runner-up Zastal Zielona Góra 105:95. Arka Gdynia secured a dominant 95-70 victory over Śląsk Wrocław, capitalizing on the latter’s struggles with physical conditioning and tactical cohesion. Other early wins include Stal Ostrów Wielkopolski over PGE Start Lublin (84:79) and Legia Warszawa over Energa Czarni Słupsk (79:76).

As the season progresses, Dziki Warszawa has undergone a significant roster overhaul to increase professionalism, adding American player Joseph Girrard III. This depth helped Dziki Warszawa secure a 91:81 victory against Energa Czarni Słupsk. In other matchups, King Szczecin defeated PGE Start Lublin 70:54.

In the women’s league, Ślęza Wrocław dominated Artego Bydgoszcz 83:30, and Contimax MOSiR secured an upset against champions Lotto AZS UMCS Lublin. Infrastructure improvements, such as the modernization of the Politechnika Poznań hall to meet Eurocup requirements, continue to support the league's growth. The season is broadcast on Polsat Sport channels.
