Polygon Labs is transitioning from a blockchain developer toward becoming a payment-oriented infrastructure provider through its ‘Open Money Stack’ platform.

In October 2026, the company finalized the acquisition of cryptocurrency exchange Coinme. This move, part of a broader $250 million acquisition strategy that included the wallet infrastructure firm Sequence, provides Polygon with 37 money transmitter licenses and 11 state-level exemptions, enabling regulated payment capabilities across 48 U.S. states. The company is also registered as a Money Services Business (MSB) with the Financial Crimes Enforcement Network (FinCEN).

The Open Money Stack is designed to bridge fiat currency and digital assets by allowing businesses to manage the full payment lifecycle—including accepting cash, bank transfers, or card payments—and settling transactions on-chain via stablecoins. Early adopters of the platform include fintech and cross-border payment companies such as Tazapay, Mesh, Toku, and Kira.

By acquiring Coinme, which operates a network of cryptocurrency kiosks and cash-to-crypto exchange points, Polygon aims to facilitate direct conversions between cryptocurrencies, stablecoins, and traditional fiat. CEO Marc Boiron stated that the company intends to function as a ‘payments-focused company that just uses blockchains to move money,’ noting that the acquisition allows Polygon to maintain direct customer relationships and capture fees previously paid to third parties. Polygon Labs expects its regulated payments business to become profitable by 2027.

To expand the utility of this infrastructure, Polygon Labs integrated the TRON network into the Open Money Stack. This integration allows fintech and remittance providers to connect traditional banking funds to the TRON ecosystem, facilitating the movement of funds between TRON and Ethereum Virtual Machine (EVM) compatible networks. This expansion specifically targets regions where USDT is heavily utilized for retail and cross-border payments.
