Sources: 5. Developments: 2. In Ponferrada, Mayor Marco Morala has addressed various municipal management and urban development issues. Regarding public safety, the Mayor defended the city council against criticism from the PSOE concerning the use of security fences to cordon off dilapidated buildings and vacant lots. Morala stated the administration is working to ensure property owners address structural risks, noting that the council will use ‘subsidiary execution’ to carry out necessary works if owners fail to comply. In terms of infrastructure, Morala announced that a plot on Obispo Osmundo street is the likely site for the new Ponferrada I health center. This follows a successful legal appeal that resolved land registration issues which had stalled the property transfer for four years. The Mayor indicated this location is more viable than an alternative site near the old Carmen cemetery, which is hindered by property claims. Additionally, negotiations are underway with the Junta to acquire the old health center building for municipal services once the new facility is complete. ## Timeline ### 2026-09-28: Ponferrada Mayor announces likely site for new health center Ponferrada Mayor Marco Morala announced the Obispo Osmundo plot will likely host the new Ponferrada I health center after resolving land registration delays. 2 sources. https://clstr.news/cluster/ponferrada-mayor-announces-likely-site-for-new-health-center ### 2026-09-14: Ponferrada Mayor defends response to dilapidated buildings Ponferrada Mayor Marco Morala defended the city's management of dilapidated buildings against PSOE criticism, pledging subsidiary action if property owners fail to address safety risks. 4 sources. https://clstr.news/cluster/ponferrada-psoe-criticizes-local-government-over-building-safety --- Cite as: Ponferrada municipal management and urban development.
