Port Qasim in Karachi is undergoing industrial expansion through the development of specialized economic zones and infrastructure upgrades.

Initial plans announced by Federal Minister for Maritime Affairs Muhammad Junaid Anwar Chaudhry focused on a 150-acre automotive processing zone. This project aims to implement an Import-Refurbishment-Export (AIRE) framework, featuring 264 operational units including refurbishment workshops and spare-parts units, with an estimated annual export value of $500 million.

Subsequent developments include the Port Qasim Authority’s plan to construct a new multipurpose cargo terminal via a build-operate-transfer arrangement to manage rising trade volumes. Additionally, a 400-acre apparel zone has been announced. This textile-focused zone will include an $18 million investment from Artistic Milliners to establish a manufacturing unit using green technologies, which is projected to generate approximately $2.2 billion in annual exports.
