An avalanche near the Portillo Ski Center in the Chilean Andes, specifically near Laguna del Inca, resulted in multiple casualties and injuries. The incident occurred as a group of hikers was ascending toward the summit of Cerro Los Tres Hermanos. Authorities reported that the hikers were caught in a movement of snow and rocks that swept them into the freezing waters of the lagoon.

Initial reports confirmed three fatalities and several injuries. Local officials noted that the group was in a restricted, non-authorized area and had reportedly been warned about the high risk of snow slides.

Rescue operations involving the Chilean Navy, Army, Carabineros, and other agencies faced logistical challenges and temporary suspensions due to hazardous weather and the risk of further avalanches. Following these delays, search efforts were organized to locate a third missing climber believed to have been pulled into the lagoon.
