During a Fan Appreciation Night at a Portland Thorns match, a group of approximately 20 activists from XX-XY Athletics, carrying “Save Women’s Sports” signs, reportedly encountered verbal abuse and physical hostility from spectators. Witnesses and activists, including reporter Brandi Kruse, stated that one woman was shoved down several rows of seats, leading to a police report.

Security personnel at Providence Park were criticized for forcibly removing several members of the group while other spectators were not ejected. The controversy extended beyond the stadium when four women from the group reported being forced out of a Lyft vehicle by a driver who identified them via news reports. One participant, Julie Lane, reported that her account was subsequently deactivated.
