The Catholic Church in Portugal has established a national network for online evangelization through the inaugural National Meeting of Digital Missionaries in Alfândega da Fé. The event gathered over three thousand participants, including content creators and communicators, to discuss the Church’s presence in the digital world. Bishop Nuno Almeida noted that the digital realm has become a “major frontier for mission work.” Organizers aimed to move beyond mere content production to foster authentic human connection and develop a manifesto for digital engagement to be shared with the Portuguese Episcopal Conference. Following the success of the first meeting, the Archdiocese of Évora has been selected to host the second National Meeting of Digital Missionaries in 2028. The initiative continues to focus on building networks between dioceses, parishes, and institutions to improve communication on digital platforms. ## Timeline ### 2026-09-28: Évora to host 2nd National Meeting of Digital Missionaries in 2028 The Archdiocese of Évora will host the 2nd National Meeting of Digital Missionaries in 2028, following an inaugural event in Alfândega da Fé focused on the Catholic Church's digital communication. 2 sources. https://clstr.news/cluster/vora-to-host-2nd-national-meeting-of-digital-missionaries-in-2028 ### 2026-09-25: Digital Missionaries hold first national meeting in Portugal The first National Meeting of Digital Missionaries is being held in Alfândega da Fé, Portugal, to establish a national network for online evangelization and discuss the Church's role in the digital environment. 2 sources. https://clstr.news/cluster/digital-missionaries-hold-first-national-meeting-in-portugal --- Cite as: Portuguese Catholic Digital Missionaries initiative.
