The India Meteorological Department (IMD) initially warned that Maharashtra could face early post-monsoon heat, with temperatures expected to rise above normal levels as the monsoon withdrew. Projections suggested that while some regions might receive brief rainfall relief through early October, heat would likely increase along the Konkan coast starting October 2 before spreading inland.

By early October, Mumbai experienced intense heat and high humidity due to the southwest monsoon departing approximately five days earlier than usual. Colaba recorded a maximum temperature of 37.4°C, marking its highest October temperature in 13 years. IMD scientist Sushma Nair attributed this spike to shifting wind patterns—specifically the transition from westerlies to easterlies which delays the cooling sea breeze—and the presence of an anti-cyclone near the city. Temperatures in Mumbai, Thane, and Raigadh were expected to remain between 35°C and 37°C.

As the monsoon withdrawal continues, heat and humidity have spread across the state. Mumbai's maximum temperature has been projected to reach 38°C, while Pune has seen rising temperatures with forecasts suggesting highs of 36°C. In Nagpur, maximum temperatures are expected to hover around 30°C. Authorities have advised citizens to stay hydrated and avoid prolonged midday sun exposure.

The lack of rainfall has also led to deteriorating air quality. In response to rising pollution levels caused by dust and construction, the Brihanmumbai Municipal Corporation (BMC) announced plans to monitor at least 10 pollution hotspots within each administrative ward.
