In the blockchain industry, efforts to secure networks involve testing quantum-resistant transaction methods and signature schemes. QuFi Network Limited has launched the QuFi Platform, a post-quantum verification layer that utilizes NIST-standardized algorithms—including ML-DSA-65, SLH-DSA, and ML-KEM-1024—to manage synthetic tokens on Bitcoin’s Testnet4 without altering the underlying protocol. This approach allows for the decoupling of verification from settlement.

Other networks are exploring specific technical pathways. TRON is testing post-quantum signature options, such as Falcon-512 and ML-DSA-44, on its Nile testnet. However, these signatures require more data than current ECDSA signatures, which could potentially reduce transaction throughput to approximately 173 transactions per second. Meanwhile, Bitcoin researchers are examining proposals like BIP-360’s Pay-to-Merkle-Root (P2MR) and Blockstream Research’s SHRINCS to mitigate the risk of quantum computers using Shor’s algorithm to derive private keys.

In the digital identity sector, the uPQComing project, funded by the Chips Joint Undertaking, is working to integrate PQC into resource-constrained embedded secure elements. Giesecke+Devrient (G+D) is prototyping these approaches within a Java Card chip operating system to create crypto-agile architectures for identity card operating systems that can adapt as quantum threats evolve.
