On September 12, Major Trần Văn Tùng, a battalion commander in the 568th Infantry Regiment, died while attempting to rescue an individual from the Trà Lý River in Hưng Yên province. After intervening to prevent a suicide attempt near Bo Bridge, Major Tùng entered the water to save the individual, but both were swept away by strong currents. A large-scale search operation involving approximately 190 personnel from the military, police, and rescue teams, supported by local fishermen, recovered the bodies of both Major Tùng and the individual on September 13. Following the incident, Minister of National Defence General Phan Van Giang signed a decision to posthumously promote Major Tùng to the rank of Lieutenant Colonel in recognition of his bravery.
