Sources: 11. Developments: 3. Arsenal and Manchester United have reportedly reduced their interest in Sporting CP defender Maxi Araújo. While both Premier League clubs were previously linked to potential bids of approximately €65 million, interest from both sides has since cooled. Following a contract extension with Sporting CP that runs until 2030, Araújo’s market value is estimated between €40 million and €50 million, though his contract maintains an €80 million release clause. Current reports indicate that neither Mikel Arteta nor Manchester United management are actively pursuing the Uruguayan international, as both squads currently possess sufficient options for the left-sided position. ## Timeline ### 2026-10-18: Arsenal and Manchester United reduce interest in Maxi Araujo Arsenal and Manchester United have reportedly lowered their interest in Sporting CP defender Maxi Araujo following his recent contract extension with the Portuguese club. 2 sources. https://clstr.news/cluster/arsenal-and-manchester-united-reduce-interest-in-maxi-araujo ### 2026-10-15: Arsenal and Manchester United eye Sporting CP's Maxi Araújo Arsenal and Manchester United are interested in signing Sporting CP's Maxi Araújo, though the player's €80 million release clause remains a significant hurdle. 2 sources. https://clstr.news/cluster/arsenal-and-manchester-united-eye-sporting-cps-maxi-arajo ### 2026-09-28: Manchester United and Arsenal monitor Porto defender Alberto Costa Manchester United and Arsenal are scouting FC Porto right-back Alberto Costa, who has a €65m release clause following a standout debut season in Portugal. 7 sources. https://clstr.news/cluster/manchester-united-and-arsenal-monitor-porto-defender-alberto-costa --- Cite as: Premier League interest in Maxi Araújo cools.
