The musical ‘El alma al aire’, featuring the songs of Spanish singer Alejandro Sanz, has premiered at the Teatro Ocaso Coliseum in Madrid. Produced by Stage Entertainment, the production took four years to develop and represents the company’s first 100% Spanish musical.

Written by playwright Álvaro Tato and directed by Jonathan Kent, the show is a fictional story set in a fishing village in Cádiz. The plot follows a talented young musician named Ale and explores how the arrival of a newcomer, a real estate developer from Madrid named Alma, impacts the local community. Lead actors Pepe Nufrio and Amanda Digón noted that the production aims to allow audiences to connect with the songs through a narrative lens, utilizing new arrangements of Sanz’s hits.

During the premiere, Alejandro Sanz attended alongside his partner, Stephanie Cayo, and his four children: Manuela, Alexander, Dylan, and Alma. Sanz described his children as his “primary inspiration” and noted their multilingual abilities, including Russian, Chinese, English, Spanish, and some Arabic. His eldest daughter, Manuela Sánchez, a fashion designer currently living in Mexico, reflected on the experience of growing up in the public eye and the professional training used to manage media pressure.
