Industrial heritage sites in Turkey face various threats to their preservation. In Izmir, the Historical Electricity Factory in the Konak Umurbey neighborhood is threatened by new zoning plans that designate surrounding parcels as a ‘Trade-Tourism Area’. These plans, enacted with the signature of President Erdoğan, increase construction limits to 20 stories, allowing for skyscrapers near the landmark. Architects have argued that protecting only the individual structure is insufficient to preserve the site’s historical context.

Similarly, the historic Antalya Old Electricity Factory, established in 1926, faces the threat of collapse due to long-term neglect. Although restoration protocols were signed in 2017 under the Antalya Governorship, no physical improvements have been made. The site, which ceased operations in 1975, currently consists only of carcass walls following the theft of machinery and the removal of its roof in 2011.
