Artisans in Turkey are working to preserve traditional intangible cultural heritage through specialized instruction and practice.

In Izmir, Gülcan Ulu, a certified Bearer of Intangible Cultural Heritage, teaches the art of ebru painting. After mastering the craft in Istanbul, she now operates a workshop in Çiğli where she instructs students of various ages in techniques ranging from ‘battal ebru’ to complex floral patterns.

Similarly, in Erzurum, Bülent Yazıcı preserves the Seljuk and Ottoman-era wood art known as naht. A self-taught artisan who earned master trainer certification, Yazıcı has produced nearly 2,500 works and conducts courses through the Erzurum Metropolitan Municipality Vocational Training Courses to pass the intricate sawing techniques to younger generations.
