Directed by Mike Flanagan, the series provides a modern interpretation of the story, focusing on the impacts of social media, viral bullying, and public humiliation in a contemporary setting. The production stars Samer H. Howell as Carrie White, a teenager facing peer violence and family difficulties after the death of her father, before discovering telekinetic abilities. The cast also includes Samantha Sloan, Sienna Agudong, Amber Midtander, Joel Ordlet, Alison Thornton, Matthew Lillard, and Josie Tota. Samantha Sloyan portrays Carrie’s mother, Margaret White. Since its debut on October 7, the series has become an international streaming hit, reaching the top of series charts in 46 countries. The adaptation integrates modern social anxieties, such as online harassment and school shooting drills, to explore the protagonist's psychological trauma. Stephen King has praised Flanagan as “the best adapter of my work,” suggesting potential future collaborations. This version introduces significant narrative departures from previous adaptations. Most notably, the series concludes with Carrie surviving the prom massacre and leaving her hometown with a new character, Emaline, rather than dying. The finale also features an alternative ending involving astral projection. The series expands the narrative by introducing new characters with psychic abilities, such as Emaline West and Adelaide, who belong to a group of “shining” individuals. Flanagan has expressed interest in expanding the story into a trilogy, noting that the plot was intentionally designed with “ingredients to allow for further expansion.” While the series has received positive attention for its character depth, some viewers have debated the characterization of Carrie’s bully, Chris Hargensen, citing a perceived lack of clear motivation. ## Timeline ### 2026-10-22: Stephen King adaptations mark 50 years of Carrie Marking 50 years since the release of the film ‘Carrie’, new discussions emerge regarding Stephen King’s various screen adaptations and a new Amazon Prime series. 2 sources. https://clstr.news/cluster/stephen-king-adaptations-mark-50-years-of-carrie ### 2026-10-18: Mike Flanagan's Carrie series debuts on Prime Video Mike Flanagan’s new eight-episode series adaptation of Stephen King’s Carrie has premiered on Prime Video, expanding the original story with new characters and psychic lore. 6 sources. https://clstr.news/cluster/mike-flanagan-adapts-stephen-kings-carrie-into-amazon-series ### 2026-10-16: Amazon Prime Video releases Carrie horror series reboot Amazon Prime Video's new eight-episode series ‘Carrie’, directed by Mike Flanagan, reimagines Stephen King's horror classic through a Gen Z lens, featuring an alternative ending that allows for a potential next 4 sources. https://clstr.news/cluster/amazon-prime-video-releases-carrie-horror-series-reboot ### 2026-10-14: Mike Flanagan’s Carrie becomes global streaming hit on Prime Video Mike Flanagan’s new ‘Carrie’ series on Prime Video has become a global streaming hit, reimagining Stephen King’s classic with modern themes and a revised ending that allows for a potential trilogy. 17 sources. https://clstr.news/cluster/mike-flanagan-adapts-stephen-kings-carrie-for-amazon-prime-video ### 2026-10-12: Mike Flanagan’s Carrie series reimagines Stephen King classic on Prime Video Mike Flanagan’s new Prime Video series ‘Carrie’ reimagines Stephen King’s classic horror novel, introducing modern themes like cyberbullying and leaving the door open for a multi-season saga. 31 sources. https://clstr.news/cluster/prime-video-releases-mike-flanagan-adaptation-of-stephen-kings-carrie ### 2026-10-11: Samantha Sloyan stars in Mike Flanagan’s ‘Carrie’ series Samantha Sloyan stars as a protective, reimagined Margaret White in Mike Flanagan’s ‘Carrie’ series on Prime Video. 2 sources. https://clstr.news/cluster/samantha-sloyan-stars-in-mike-flanagans-carrie-series ### 2026-10-10: Carrie series adaptation starring Summer H.
