Prince William has advocated for ‘urgent optimism’ to address the global climate emergency, emphasizing the deployment of existing solutions. In his remarks, he noted the devastating impact of recent heatwaves and wildfires in Britain, which the UK Health Security Agency estimated were responsible for approximately 2,877 deaths in England.

Following these calls for action, the 15 finalists for the 2026 Earthshot Prize have been announced. The finalists include various global initiatives, such as the Yellowstone to Yukon Conservation Initiative, an Argentine wildfire tracking project using artificial intelligence, and the Zero Emission Maritime Buyers Alliance. The winners, who will receive 1 million pounds each, are scheduled to be announced during a ceremony in Mumbai this November.

In preparation for the upcoming summit and awards ceremony in India, Prince William hosted a cricket event on The Mall in London to promote the Earthshot Prize. The event featured international cricket legends, including former Indian captain Sourav Ganguly, West Indian player Brian Lara, and England captain Joe Root. The activity was organized to highlight sporting ties between the United Kingdom and India as a precursor to next month’s ceremony.
