In late September 2026, inmates at the Bollate prison in Milan released a thirteen-track rap album titled ‘30 OP’. Produced in the facility’s recording studio through a workshop active since 2022, the project reinterprets penitentiary regulations to focus on the ‘opportunity’ to gain skills and take responsibility. The album aims to address themes of solitude and the reality of detention rather than glorifying criminal lifestyles. Following this, the Monza prison hosted a concert titled ‘La Musica è Libertà’ to conclude a musical laboratory. The event featured professional artists such as Fedez and Emis Killa, who performed alongside inmates who presented songs composed and produced within the prison. Organizers described music as a therapeutic tool to help detainees process emotions and channel anger constructively, with hopes to expand such cultural programs to other facilities in Italy. ## Timeline ### 2026-10-02: Monza prison hosts rap concert for inmate rehabilitation project Italian rap stars Fedez, Emis Killa, and others performed at Monza prison to conclude a musical rehabilitation project involving inmate-composed songs. 2 sources. https://clstr.news/cluster/monza-prison-hosts-rap-concert-for-inmate-rehabilitation-project ### 2026-09-27: Bollate prison inmates release rap album ‘30 OP’ Inmates at Milan's Bollate prison have released ‘30 OP’, a rap album recorded in the facility's studio to promote social redemption and personal growth through music. 2 sources. https://clstr.news/cluster/bollate-prison-inmates-release-rap-album-30-op --- Cite as: Prisoner rehabilitation through music in Italy.
