Van den Bergh, a former UK Open and World Matchplay champion, is struggling with a prolonged slump in form following a three-month health-related hiatus. Recent losses at the Flanders Darts Trophy and Players Championship events have placed his PDC Tour Card and World Championship eligibility at risk. He has also withdrawn from recent competition to support his family. Similarly, five-time world champion Raymond van Barneveld has described the current season as the “worst of his career.” While he remains capable of winning individual matches, he is struggling with tournament consistency. Van Barneveld has indicated that his future in the sport depends on qualifying for the World Darts Championship; failure to do so may lead him to pursue business or motivational speaking instead. ## Timeline ### 2026-09-26: Raymond van Barneveld questions professional future after difficult season Professional darts player Raymond van Barneveld is questioning his future after a difficult season, stating his immediate goal is qualifying for the World Darts Championship. 2 sources. https://clstr.news/cluster/raymond-van-barneveld-questions-professional-future-after-difficult-season ### 2026-09-23: Dimitri Van den Bergh faces career risks amid form slump Belgian darts player Dimitri Van den Bergh risks losing his PDC Tour Card and missing the World Championship due to a persistent slump in form and a recent withdrawal to support his family. 2 sources. https://clstr.news/cluster/dimitri-van-den-bergh-faces-career-risks-amid-form-slump --- Cite as: Professional darts players facing career uncertainty.
