Sources: 36. Developments: 7. Amazon MGM Studios has released a trailer for ‘Ali G: Who Iz I?’, the directorial debut of Sacha Baron Cohen. The film, which stars Baron Cohen and Morgana Robinson, follows the character Ali G as he travels to America to reclaim his former glory after discovering his long-term girlfriend is eight months pregnant. The film was scheduled for a limited theatrical release on October 23, 2026. Promotional activities included a large-scale procession through London and a Los Angeles premiere where Cohen appeared in character. During the Los Angeles event, Cohen made irreverent comments regarding Donald Trump and engaged in a comedic confrontation with Oasis co-founder Noel Gallagher, jokingly accusing him of occupying his seat. Despite the premiere, the film faced a global boycott campaign led by the British media platform NewsCord. Critics argued the character serves as an ‘alibi for racism’ by reinforcing racial stereotypes. In response, Cohen published an essay in The Times defending the satire, noting that Ali G is a white man from Staines acting as a cultural appropriator. Amidst the controversy, a planned premiere in Denmark was cancelled. The theatrical rollout was highly restricted, spanning only one weekend across 23 theaters, a significant reduction from initial reports of over 1,000 screens. Following this limited run and a 48% rating on Rotten Tomatoes, the film is scheduled to begin streaming on Amazon Prime Video on October 28. Amazon/MGM has not commented on whether the boycott or critical reception influenced the accelerated streaming schedule. ## Timeline ### 2026-10-26: Ali G: Who Iz I? to stream on Prime Video after limited theatrical run Sacha Baron Cohen’s ‘Ali G: Who Iz I?’ will stream on Prime Video on October 28 following a minimal theatrical release in only 23 theaters. 3 sources. https://clstr.news/cluster/ali-g-who-iz-i-to-stream-on-prime-video-after-limited-theatrical-run ### 2026-10-26: Sacha Baron-Cohen credits Perth for inspiration of Ali G sequel Sacha Baron-Cohen revealed that his new Ali G film was inspired by a fake stand-up tour he organized in Perth to secure entry into Western Australia during the pandemic. 2 sources. https://clstr.news/cluster/sacha-baron-cohen-credits-perth-for-inspiration-of-ali-g-sequel ### 2026-10-18: Sacha Baron Cohen returns as Ali G in new film amid controversy Sacha Baron Cohen’s return to his character Ali G in the film ‘Ali G: Who Iz I?’ has ignited debate over cultural appropriation and racial satire. 8 sources. https://clstr.news/cluster/sacha-baron-cohen-returns-as-ali-g-in-new-film ### 2026-10-15: Sacha Baron Cohen debuts Ali G at Los Angeles film premiere Sacha Baron Cohen appeared as Ali G at the Los Angeles premiere of his directorial debut, ‘Ali G: Who Iz I?’, while making satirical remarks about Donald Trump. 3 sources. https://clstr.news/cluster/sacha-baron-cohen-debuts-ali-g-at-los-angeles-film-premiere ### 2026-10-15: Sacha Baron Cohen premieres ‘Ali G: Who Iz I?’ in Los Angeles Sacha Baron Cohen premiered his directorial debut, ‘Ali G: Who Iz I?’, in Los Angeles amid a global boycott campaign accusing the character of reinforcing racial stereotypes. 8 sources. https://clstr.news/cluster/sacha-baron-cohen-premieres-ali-g-who-iz-i-in-los-angeles ### 2026-10-11: Sacha Baron Cohen leads 300 Ali G lookalikes through London Sacha Baron Cohen and 300 Ali G lookalikes paraded through London landmarks to promote his upcoming film, ‘Ali G: Who Iz I?’, ahead of its limited October release. 7 sources. https://clstr.news/cluster/sacha-baron-cohen-leads-300-ali-g-lookalikes-through-london ### 2026-10-09: Sacha Baron Cohen releases trailer for Ali G: Who Iz I Sacha Baron Cohen’s directorial debut, ‘Ali G: Who Iz I?’, has released a new trailer.
