ABICK S.A. has proposed the construction of a salmon harvesting and processing plant in Bahía Riquelme, situated on the Antonio Varas peninsula. The project is currently in the regulatory phase, seeking environmental and sectoral authorizations.

The proposal involves maritime infrastructure, including a pontoon for live salmon harvesting located roughly 80 meters from the shore and a submarine pipeline to transport fish to a future facility. 

Regional presidential delegate Ericka Farías Guerra has engaged in discussions with company representatives and artisanal fishing leaders to assess the project’s compatibility with local activities. A central concern involves whether the proposed infrastructure will obstruct Bahía Riquelme’s function as a sheltered port and anchoring zone for vessels during bad weather. Farías Guerra noted that the project could provide new employment opportunities for the Última Esperanza province once all requirements are met.
