Following a poor start to the 2026/2027 Super League, where PSS Sleman suffered three consecutive defeats without securing a single point, head coach Pieter Huistra addressed his future. Huistra noted defensive vulnerabilities and stated he was leaving his position to the club’s discretion.

By late October, the coaching staff shifted focus toward tactical preparation for an upcoming match against Persik Kediri. To optimize player recovery and minimize travel fatigue, the team opted to remain in Surabaya for training and rest rather than returning to Sleman.
