Polish music icon Irena Santor, 91, has recently maintained a public presence through appearances at book premieres, despite having retired from her artistic career in 2021. During these appearances, Santor has shared reflections on her lifestyle and personal values. She described a preference for a modest life, noting that she has never sought luxury and instead focuses on simple pleasures and daily needs. As her priorities have shifted away from stage success, Santor has emphasized a desire to focus on living a long, healthy life and maintaining an optimistic outlook toward the future. To mark 75 years of her artistic career, Telewizja Polska (TVP) released a documentary titled ‘Irena Santor. Magiczny jeden krok’ (Irena Santor. A Magical Single Step), directed by Agnieszka Gola. The film, which took five years to produce, traces her journey from her early years with the ‘Mazowsze’ ensemble to her solo success beginning in 1959. The documentary features personal reflections and was filmed during her final concert tour. Her career milestones have been further celebrated with a jubilee concert titled ‘Kręci mnie ten świat’ at the Grand Theatre – National Opera in Warsaw, which included performances by artists from various generations of Polish music. Regarding her health, Santor recently revealed that a severe vision impairment prevents her from traditional reading. To maintain her passion for literature, she now uses a ‘czytak’ (a reading aid for audiobooks or podcasts) to listen to stories narrated by actors. She noted that reading was a vital source of knowledge during her youth, citing ‘Stara baśń’ by Józef Ignacy Kraszewski as a particularly influential work. ## Timeline ### 2026-10-11: Irena Santor reveals vision impairment prevents traditional reading Polish singer Irena Santor revealed she can no longer read traditional books due to severe vision impairment, opting instead to use audio devices to continue her passion for literature. 3 sources. https://clstr.news/cluster/irena-santor-reveals-vision-impairment-affects-her-reading ### 2026-10-07: Irena Santor celebrates 75 years of musical career To celebrate 75 years of her musical career, Polish singer Irena Santor is the subject of a new TVP documentary, ‘Irena Santor.
