Family members stated the couple realized they were being followed while returning from a relative’s home. Security camera footage captured the victims being intercepted, after which their bodies were discovered in a wooded area near the Sossego and Cacareco communities. Investigators recovered the firefighter’s service pistol, containing 15 rounds, from under the seat of the victims’ car. The Civil Police of Rio de Janeiro are investigating the incident.

By late September, the city expanded its security measures by extending Municipal Force patrols to more than 30 locations, covering over 85% of the municipality, including neighborhoods such as Nova Campinas, Parque Paulista, and Parque Eldorado.
