The collection consists of personal notes, or ‘appunti,’ written by Jorge Mario Bergoglio over three decades, spanning from December 1992 to August 2024. The writings document his various roles, including his time as an auxiliary bishop and archbishop in Argentina, his elevation to the College of Cardinals, and his pontificate. Cardinal Víctor Manuel Fernández, Prefect of the Dicastery for the Doctrine of the Faith, will provide commentary and historical context for the entries. The book is intended to offer a “deeper understanding of the Argentine pope’s inner life” and will be released simultaneously in five languages across 94 countries. Publishing responsibilities include the Libreria Editrice Vaticana for the Italian edition, Editions Albin Michel for the French release, and Penguin Random House for the Spanish, English, and Portuguese versions. ## Timeline ### 2026-10-07: Vatican to publish private diary of Pope Francis The Vatican will publish ‘The Private Diary of Pope Francis’ on November 24, featuring personal notes written from 1992 through 2024, covering his life as a bishop, cardinal, and pope. 2 sources. https://clstr.news/cluster/vatican-to-publish-private-diary-of-pope-francis ### 2026-10-05: Pope Francis's private diary to be published in November The Vatican will publish ‘The Private Diary of Pope Francis’ on November 24, featuring personal notes from 1992 to 2024, presented and commented on by Cardinal Víctor Manuel Fernández. 26 sources. https://clstr.news/cluster/pope-francis-private-diaries-to-be-published-in-november --- Cite as: Publication of Pope Francis's private diary.
