The PGA TOUR Champions Pure Insurance Championship took place at Pebble Beach Golf Links. Prior to the tournament, the removal of a diseased Monterey cypress tree on the par-4 16th hole sparked debate among professionals. Ernie Els raised concerns regarding the course’s integrity and the impact of modern ball distance, while Pebble Beach Resorts stated the removal was necessary to prevent the spread of disease. Other players, including Zach Johnson, suggested the change might not be significant.

Zach Johnson ultimately won the championship, finishing at 14-under-par to secure a two-stroke lead over Henrik Stenson, Steven Alker, and Rory Sabbatini. This victory marked Johnson’s sixth win of the season and his second consecutive win on the senior tour.
