Developments: 2. In late September 2026, a mass brawl involving approximately 10 foreign nationals occurred in Poseung-eup, Pyeongtaek. Initial reports indicated that individuals used bats to strike a person on the ground. Two men, a Russian national and a Kyrgyzstani national, were initially arrested on suspicion of violating laws regarding violent acts, though they were released after identification as they may have also been victims of unilateral assault. By November, the investigation expanded, identifying 22 total participants in the incident. Police arrested nine foreign nationals, primarily from Kazakhstan and Kyrgyzstan, on charges of joint injury and special injury for using wooden clubs and other objects. Authorities determined the conflict began at a club and escalated at a children’s park after groups summoned acquaintances to resolve a dispute. Investigators noted that many participants are day laborers and found no evidence of involvement with drugs or organized crime. Two Kazakhstani nationals reportedly fled the country following the brawl, prompting police to request notification upon their re-entry while tracking remaining suspects through travel bans. ## Timeline ### 2026-11-02: Pyeongtaek police arrest 9 foreigners in mass brawl investigation South Korean police have arrested nine foreigners and identified 22 participants in a mass brawl in Pyeongtaek.
