The integration of quantum and advanced technologies into the United States national security sector has seen developments involving both international partnerships and domestic industrial expansion. Initially, German drone manufacturer Quantum Systems utilized investment from In-Q-Tel, a venture capital firm linked to the CIA, to enter the U.S. market. Co-CEO Sven Kruck noted that this support helped the company secure contracts with the CIA and the FBI, providing the firm with significant credibility within the American defense landscape. Subsequently, Lockheed Martin launched the Quantum Innovation Center (QuIC) to transition academic research into operational national security technologies. The center focuses on advancing computing, sensor technology, communications, and navigation. To support this initiative, Lockheed Martin Ventures has expanded its investment fund to $1 billion to target emerging technologies and integrate breakthroughs from third-party startups. ## Timeline ### 2026-09-27: Lockheed Martin launches Quantum Innovation Center for national security Lockheed Martin has established the Quantum Innovation Center (QuIC) to transform academic quantum research into operational national security technologies, supported by a $1 billion venture fund. 2 sources. https://clstr.news/cluster/lockheed-martin-launches-quantum-innovation-center-for-national-security ### 2026-08-31: Quantum Systems uses CIA-linked investment to enter U.S. market German drone maker Quantum Systems used support from CIA-linked investor In-Q-Tel to secure contracts with the CIA and FBI, highlighting U.S. influence in the European defense sector. 10 sources. https://clstr.news/cluster/quantum-systems-expands-us-defense-presence-via-cia-linked-investor --- Cite as: Quantum technology integration in U.S. defense.
