Sources: 12. Developments: 2. Queen Letizia of Spain has maintained an institutional agenda centered on literature and reading. Her engagement with the arts is demonstrated through official visits, such as her travels to Norway, Ceuta, and Melilla, where she has focused on children’s reading habits. This interest in literature is further highlighted by her participation in major cultural events. During the 75th Premio Planeta de Novela awards in Barcelona, Queen Letizia and King Felipe VI presented the prize to author Isabel Allende. The Queen’s appearances at such events often involve the use of significant historical pieces from the royal jewelry collection. Expanding the family's public role, Princess Leonor has begun undertaking more independent responsibilities. As part of a gradual transition by King Felipe VI to grant the heir more responsibility, the 20-year-old Princess performed her first official solo engagement at the Princess of Asturias Awards in Oviedo. During this event, she hosted a reception for award recipients at the Hotel Reconquista without the presence of King Felipe VI, Queen Letizia, or Infanta Sofía. While the royal family appeared together for the 34th Princess of Asturias Awards Concert, these solo duties mark a shift toward Leonor taking a more central role in state functions. ## Timeline ### 2026-10-21: Princess Leonor performs first solo royal engagement in Oviedo Spanish Princess Leonor is undertaking her first solo royal engagement in Oviedo, marking a gradual increase in her official responsibilities as the heir to the throne. 10 sources. https://clstr.news/cluster/queen-letizia-attends-75th-premio-planeta-de-novela-ceremony ### 2026-10-14: Queen Letizia emphasizes literature and royal heritage Queen Letizia of Spain integrates literature into her institutional role, a passion she shares with her niece, Amanda Martín Ortiz, and highlights during cultural events like the Planeta Awards. 2 sources. https://clstr.news/cluster/queen-letizia-emphasizes-literature-and-royal-heritage --- Cite as: Spanish Royal Family: Cultural engagement and Leonor's solo.
