Authorities in Querétaro, Mexico, have outlined plans for the upcoming Independence Day celebrations scheduled for mid-September.

Initial announcements from Governor Mauricio Kuri detailed a lineup of free musical performances at Jardín Zenea and Plaza de Armas, featuring artists such as Pedro Fernández and the group Matisse. The festivities are set to culminate with the traditional ‘Grito de Independencia’ ceremony at the Government Palace.

Subsequent updates confirmed a large-scale security operation involving state, municipal, and federal police across 18 municipalities from September 12 to September 16. In the capital, road closures and inspection filters will be implemented, including closures on Avenida Zaragoza for a Civic-Military Parade on September 16. 

In response to requests from advocacy groups to protect animals and sensitive populations, officials confirmed that celebrations on September 15 will utilize low-power pyrotechnics. Attendance for the free events is expected to reach between 7,000 and 8,000 people.
