Racing Club striker Adrián ‘Maravilla’ Martínez has faced disciplinary sanctions following incidents involving elbow strikes on opponents. 

Initially, Martínez was handed a two-match suspension for an elbow during a quarter-final match in the Apertura tournament, which rendered him unavailable for a fixture against Rosario Central. In a subsequent incident during a match against Argentinos Juniors, Martínez received a direct red card for an elbow strike on Kevin Gutiérrez. While the Disciplinary Tribunal initially set a three-match penalty due to the injury sustained by the opponent, the club filed an appeal to reduce the sanction to two matches.

As a result of the successful appeal, Martínez was unavailable for the derby against Boca Juniors in Avellaneda. However, the Argentine Football Association (AFA) Disciplinary Tribunal has since ruled that Martínez’s sanction has been fulfilled, as he had already missed matches against Banfield and Boca Juniors. He has now been cleared to play in the upcoming match against Independiente Rivadavia.

This return provides a boost to manager Juan Pablo Vojvoda. While the squad continues to manage player availability, including the return of Santiago Solari to training after recovering from the flu, the coach is still evaluating the physical condition of defender Marcos Rojo to prevent potential injury.
