On September 23, 2026, a Royal Air Force Hawk T2 training jet experienced difficulties shortly after takeoff from RAF Valley on Anglesey, North Wales. Two pilots successfully ejected from the aircraft before it crashed in the Pencarnisiog area, creating a large fireball and thick black smoke. 

Both pilots were treated for minor injuries and were reported to be in “extremely good spirits” and expected to make a full recovery. While debris fell near residential properties and holiday caravans, no injuries to people on the ground were reported. 

As a precautionary measure, the RAF has temporarily suspended all Hawk T1 and T2 flying operations while a formal investigation into the cause of the crash is conducted.
