The Rail Baltica infrastructure project has seen progress in both environmental planning and physical construction across the Baltic region.

In Estonia, the environmental impact assessment for the complex corridor segment between Pärnu and Kablini was approved. This allows construction to proceed following the implementation of mitigation measures to protect wetlands, rivers, and Natura 2000 sites. Sustainability manager Kärt Mae noted that addressing one environmental issue often created another during the assessment process.

In Latvia, the construction consortium BeReRix reached a major milestone by completing major works on the southern part of the new Riga Central Station. This includes the building facade, roof glazing, passenger platforms, and the adjacent public square. While minor finishing works continue, the new section is designed to increase capacity with six tracks, including five for passenger service and one for transit. Trains using the existing 1520 mm gauge are expected to begin operating through this southern section by mid-2028.
