German music producer and composer Ralph Siegel has announced his intention to return to the Eurovision Song Contest following a severe health crisis. Siegel, 80, recently underwent rehabilitation for pneumonia and a medically induced coma, during which he experienced physical setbacks including several falls and a broken foot.

Siegel has submitted a new, previously unreleased song for the German national selection process for the 2027 contest. He intends for the track to be performed by the current generation of the group Dschinghis Khan, a group for which he famously composed a hit during the 1979 contest. Siegel noted that the melody for the new composition came to him while he was in a coma.
