The 2026-27 Ranji Trophy, India’s premier first-class cricket tournament, commenced on October 11, 2026. Organized by the BCCI, the competition features 38 state associations divided into Elite and Plate divisions, with Jammu & Kashmir entering as the defending champions.

During the opening matches, several prominent Indian players faced early difficulties. Playing for Karnataka against Andhra Pradesh, KL Rahul was dismissed for 4 runs off 11 balls. In a separate match at Wankhede Stadium, Mumbai’s Yashasvi Jaiswal was dismissed for a duck after facing 13 balls against Chandigarh.

Despite early setbacks for Karnataka, which reached 22/4 within the first eight overs due to bowling from Kavuri Saiteja and KV Sasikanth, the innings was later stabilized by half-centuries from Smaran Ravichandran and Krishan Shrijith.
