The Indian government has reconstituted the Reserve Bank of India (RBI) Central Board through several appointments. 

Initial announcements confirmed the reappointment of Mahindra Group Chairman Anand Mahindra as a part-time, non-official director for a four-year term. Additionally, former Indian Space Research Organisation (ISRO) Chairman S. Somanath was appointed to the board as a part-time, non-official director for a four-year term.

The Appointments Committee of the Cabinet has since approved the appointment of former diplomat Syed Akbaruddin, a 1985-batch Indian Foreign Service officer and former Permanent Representative to the United Nations, to serve as a part-time, non-official director for a four-year term. 

Joining Akbaruddin are Annie George Mathew, a former Special Secretary of Expenditure in the Ministry of Finance, and Janmejaya Kumar Sinha, Chairman of Boston Consulting Group (BCG) India. These appointments are intended to integrate expertise in diplomacy, public finance, economic policy, and business strategy into the bank’s oversight body. Following these changes, the total number of directors on the Central Board stands at 14. These restructuring efforts coincide with the conclusion of tenures for previous directors Venu Srinivasan, Pankaj Ramanbhai Patel, and Ravindra H Dholakia.
