Real Madrid prepares to host Villarreal at the Santiago Bernabéu for an eighth-round La Liga match following the international break. Currently sitting fourth in the standings with 15 points, the club seeks to close a six-point gap to league leaders Barcelona and recover from a recent 1-2 derby defeat against Atlético Madrid.

Squad availability remains a central theme. Kylian Mbappé is expected to return to the starting lineup after recovering from a left knee hyperextension sustained while playing for France. His return follows media scrutiny regarding his rehabilitation process and personal activities, which manager José Mourinho dismissed as “ridiculous.” While Ibrahima Konaté is expected to be available, selection challenges persist. Eder Militao, Rodrygo, and Ferland Mendy remain sidelined, while Federico Valverde is a significant doubt due to an ankle injury. Dean Huijsen is also unavailable due to suspension. Mourinho may implement tactical adjustments, such as potentially starting Antonio Rüdiger in defense.

Villarreal enters the fixture in ninth place with eight points and momentum from two consecutive victories against Málaga and Levante. Mourinho has characterized the visitors as a “tough opponent” and a “high-level team.”

Beyond domestic play, Real Madrid faces a demanding schedule, including a Champions League clash against AS Roma, as well as upcoming matches against Sevilla and RB Leipzig, and the highly anticipated El Clásico against Barcelona on October 25.
