Real Madrid experienced a period of defensive instability due to injuries and suspensions involving players such as Dean Huijsen and Raúl Asencio. This left Antonio Rüdiger as the only fully fit senior center-back until Ibrahima Konaté returned to full training following a knee injury sustained during international duty.

Following his return, Konaté played the full 90 minutes in a 1-0 La Liga victory against Villarreal at the Santiago Bernabéu. Alongside Rüdiger, Konaté was praised by Spanish media for his performance, recording four clearances and two tackles. The match also featured Trent Alexander-Arnold at right-back and saw Vinícius Júnior receive a red card in the 72nd minute.
