# Recovery of stolen Picasso etching in Milwaukee

A rare Pablo Picasso etching titled ‘Torero’ has been recovered in Milwaukee after being stolen from the DeLind Fine Art Appraisals gallery in 2018. The artwork, valued between 35,000 and 50,000 euros, was discovered by landlord Tim Dertz while cleaning a vacant apartment following an eviction.

Dertz found the framed print hanging in an unusual spot under a thick layer of dust. After an antique dealer recognized the signature, the piece was turned over to the Milwaukee Police Department. Gallery owner Bill DeLind confirmed the piece’s authenticity by identifying the original gallery sticker on the back of the frame.

The Milwaukee Police Department is continuing its investigation into the theft. The artwork remains in police custody while the owner works with insurance companies to resolve the matter.
