Regional climate protection and sustainability initiatives are being organized across Germany and Austria in October 2026.

In Berlin, the KiezKlima market focuses on sustainable living through plant exchanges, bicycle repair workshops, and clothing swaps. Similarly, in Tyrol, Austria, the 20th Klima-Netzwerktreffen serves as a networking platform for climate engagement and practical experience sharing.

In Bavaria, Climate Week runs from October 9 to October 18, featuring workshops, film screenings, and consultations. A notable highlight includes a light projection at Neuschwanstein Castle depicting “Bavarian climate stripes” to represent temperature changes from 1881 to 2025. The week concludes in Munich with the Local Conference of Youth (LCOY) from October 16 to 18. In Bayreuth, the city has implemented an interactive greenhouse gas monitor to track progress toward climate neutrality by 2040; Mayor Andreas Zippel noted that while the city is on track, continued efforts in renewable energy, transport, and building renovation are necessary.

Following these events, Munich hosts its inaugural Munich Climate Week from October 19 to 25, 2026. Under the patronage of Mayor Dominik Krause, the event features over 300 activities from various sectors focusing on urban climate adaptation, such as heat protection and infrastructure resilience. A key component is the “Climate Fresk of Nations” at the Altes Rathaus on October 24, a multilingual interactive workshop designed to help participants discuss the causes and consequences of climate change through a scientific puzzle game.
