The film ‘Silent Friend’ (Csendes barát) by Hungarian director Ildikó Enyedi has gained international attention following its release in 2025. The narrative follows a ginkgo biloba tree across three distinct time periods: 1908, 1972, and 2020.

In September 2026, the National Film Institute announced that Hungary officially selected the film as its entry for the International Feature Film category at the 99th Academy Awards. This selection followed the film receiving multiple accolades, including six awards at the Venice Film Festival.
