The film ‘A Talent for Murder’, directed by Anton Corbijn, explores the legacy of American thriller author Patricia Highsmith. Set in the Swiss Alps in 1995, the narrative follows Edward Ridgeway, an ambitious New York literary agent played by Alden Ehrenreich, who attempts to secure a new Tom Ripley novel from the reclusive Highsmith, portrayed by Helen Mirren.

The story, adapted by Joanna Murray-Smith from her play ‘Switzerland’, blends literary drama with mystery as Highsmith challenges Ridgeway to help craft a perfect murder plot. Following its production, the film has been showcased in Berlin, featuring discussions with Corbijn and TOBIS CEO Magnus Vortmeyer.

Recent descriptions of the psychological thriller, sometimes referred to as ‘A Talented Murderer’, highlight the tension between the difficult author and the young editor. As Ridgeway navigates Highsmith’s unpredictable behavior, the two eventually begin collaborating on a story set in Rome involving the character Tom Ripley and a plot to murder a wealthy family.
