The Brazilian film ‘Assalto à Brasileira’, directed by José Eduardo Belmonte, recreates a 1987 bank robbery in Londrina, Paraná. The real-life event involved seven armed men who took over 300 hostages at a Banestado branch, demanding 30 million cruzados and an escape bus.

The film explores the social and economic contradictions of Brazil during a period of high inflation, noting how crowds of approximately 5,000 people gathered and even expressed support for the robbers. The narrative follows a journalist, played by Murilo Benício, who becomes involved in the negotiations between authorities and criminals.

Following recognition at various festivals, including winning ‘Best Film’ from the Popular Jury at the 2025 Brasília Festival, the production is scheduled for theatrical release on November 5, 2026.
