The film ‘Prometido el cielo’ (also referred to as ‘Promis le ciel’), directed by Erige Sehiri, examines the complexities of intra-African migration by focusing on sub-Saharan women living in Tunisia. A co-production between Tunisia and France, the drama premiered in the Un Certain Regard section at the 78th Cannes Film Festival.

The narrative centers on characters such as Marie, an Ivorian evangelical pastor and former journalist who leads a community of female migrants, an engineering student named Jolie, and a young mother. Their lives are disrupted by the arrival of an orphaned girl. Through a neo-realist lens, the film explores themes of gender, power, and systemic prejudice. 

In addition to its festival presence, the film has received recognition at the Festival du Film Francophone d'Angoulême, winning awards for Best Director, Best Screenplay, and Best Actress.
