Sources: 24. Developments: 4. The action thriller ‘Your Mother Your Mother Your Mother’, directed by Bassam Tariq and starring Mahershala Ali, premiered at the Toronto International Film Festival to significant critical acclaim, earning a 100% score on Rotten Tomatoes and an 82/100 on Metacritic. The film follows Latif, a religious Muslim hitman and widower living in Houston, as he navigates faith, grief, and fatherhood while attempting to protect his children from a religious extremist group. The cast includes John Cho, Giancarlo Esposito, and Abubakr Ali. Critics have noted the film’s blend of intense, choreographed action and intimate character study, though some suggest the two elements occasionally struggle to integrate seamlessly. During the festival, Ali discussed his preparation, noting that his extensive physical training and financial support from the previously stalled Marvel project ‘Blade’ benefited this production. He also cited the late rapper Kaseem ‘Ka’ Ryan as a primary inspiration, stating that listening to the album ‘Honor Killed The Samurai’ helped him capture the character’s methodical tone. Following its select theatrical release on September 25, further details have emerged regarding the narrative. The film centers on Latif’s struggle to care for his children—teenage daughter Fatiha, son Qadir, and infant daughter Aziza—following the death of his wife, Khadija. The plot involves a central conflict regarding the infant’s need for breast milk, leading the family to their local mosque, and a confrontation with a mobster named Mike, who demands Latif assassinate Pastor Hwan. Released by Amazon MGM Studios, the R-rated film is scheduled for a wider release on October 9. ## Claims - Bassam Tariq wrote and directed the film ‘Your Mother Your Mother Your Mother’.
