The Telugu film ‘Comrade Kalyan’, directed by Janakiram Marella and starring Sree Vishnu, received a U/A certificate from the Central Board of Film Certification ahead of its October 9 release.

Set in the 1990s in the Adilabad region, the film is a political comedy-drama centered on a protagonist who runs a local touring film theater. The narrative follows his efforts to navigate financial and family debts, including a plot where he utilizes a communist theme to stage a fake encounter with rebels to secure a government reward. The production is noted for blending revolutionary political themes with romance and situational humor.

Following its release, the film reportedly earned a share of Rs 2.8 crore across the Telugu states of Andhra Pradesh and Telangana during its first two days. Trade sources and distributors estimate gross collections have exceeded Rs 5 crore. While the initial performance is considered decent, industry experts suggest the film must maintain momentum for long-term success. The project, produced by Kona Venkat, has received a mixed response regarding the lead actor’s new persona as he attempts to build his standing in the industry.
